Odyssey of the Seas is the first Quantum Ultra Class cruise ship to sail from North America

Royal Caribbean is coming to southern Florida in fall 2020 with the launch of the first of its Quantum Ultra Class ships to come to North America, the  Odyssey of the Seas. The ship is the 27th in Royal Caribbean’s international cruise fleet and will dock at her homeport of Fort Lauderdale, FL in November 2020.

As part of the Quantum Ultra Class, Odyssey of the Seas will represent the next evolution of Royal Caribbean’s groundbreaking and high-tech Quantum Class.

Quantum Class ships

First introduced in 2014, Quantum Class ships redefined the cruise industry with innovations in design, thrilling activities, game-changing technology and multidimensional entertainment. Guests on the Odyssey of the Seas will get to enjoy unprecedented new experiences, plus well-known and loved “Only on Royal” features, such as RipCord by iFLY sky-diving adventure; North Star, a glass observation capsule that takes guests more than 300 feet above the ocean; the state-of-the-art Two70 entertainment venue; and a ranges of scintillating culinary experiences. The ship will also feature the SeaPlex, the largest and most revolutionary indoor active space at sea, featuring a trapeze school, full-size basketball court, roller-skating rink and bumper cars.

Cruises in the Caribbean and from Europe

Odyssey of the Seas will sail in fall 2020 on six and eight-night cruises around the Caribbean and in the 2021 summer season will set sail for her summer homeport of Rome from where it will take in the Mediterranean, the Greek islands and Israel. The ship will offer lots of ways to enjoy the sun-soaked islands of the Caribbean and will be the first Ultra Class liner to dock at Aruba and Curacao. During the eight-night cruises, passengers can enjoy the rugged vistas of Aruba at the Arikok National Park and the extraordinary Dutch architecture of the narrow streets of Willemstad, Curacao. Port calls on the Odyssey’s six-night cruise include the Mexican island of Cozumel where you can explore the Maya ruins of Tulum; Georgetown, Grand Cayman, where you can snorkel with stingrays and swim with the turtles; and the private island of CocoCay, where you can experience the tallest waterslide in North America, and look at the view from 450 feet in the Up, Up & Away helium balloon. For land lovers, CocoCay also offer the largest freshwater pool in the Caribbean, the Oasis Lagoon, and famed white, sandy beaches.

Most popular cruise destinations

The most popular cruise destinations, according to figures released by the Cruise Lines International Association (CLIA) are the Caribbean with over 35 percent of volume and the Mediterranean (Barcelona and the French Riviera) with 18 percent. Cruises to northern Europe (the Baltic Sea, St. Petersburg and Stockholm account for around 11 percent, while Asian and Alaskan cruises both have around a 4.5 percent share.

Caribbean routes are already available for booking on Odyssey of the Seas, while booking for summer 2021 routes from Europe will open in November this year.
